| The Thing-a-ma-Jig represents a
leap in kit technology with regard to assembly and teaching basic skills. |
Featuring a new fin technology developed by
FlisKits called Jig-Tech, you assemble a "Fin Unit" from the provided laser cut
fins. The fins are so designed that the fin unit will hold itself together as it
dries, using common white glue.
Another feature of Jig-Tech technology is that the fins are
assured of being perfectly straight every time.
Once dry, this unique fin unit is then slid into position on
the body tube and glued in place.
It is possible for a beginner, using the Thing-a-ma-Jig as
their first model rocket build, to assemble this kit in under an hour using white glue. |

Jim,
For past few weeks, members of ROCK (Section 622) have been
volunteering at Great Oaks Village. GOV is a Florida Dept. of
Children & Families live-in facility for abused and neglected kids
here in Orlando. |
As part of their summer school program, GOV is 'doing rocketry'.
For their first rockets, the kids (ages 7 to 17) build and flew Alpha's
and similar near RTF's.
For the second rocket, the younger kids built Thing-a-ma-jigs
while the older kids used an Estes Designers package to make a choice of several near-scratch designs.
After seeing the Thing-a-ma-jigs assembled, every single older kid said, "hey those are cool. Why can't we build those???"

The real key to the popularity of this kit is the Jig-Tech fin unit. The
figure below gives you an example of what this technology is and how it can result in a
simple to build rocket with a perfect fit and straight fins every time!
From left to right, you slip the pats of one fin
into the slots of another. You then take the remaining (3rd) fin and attach it as
shown in the center. The result is a triangular arrangement that holds itself
together as the glue dries. The triangular opening in the center is sized to
perfectly fit the body tube of the model
