Commemorating FlisKits 5th Anniversary
September 16th 2007

Riding the wave of excitement caused by such announcements as the Borealis, US TOG and others, the HERC-5 continues the tradition of exciting ships set in a future of galactic exploration with the members of the United Solar Planetary Federation and her growing allies such as the Hobbicron Industrial Empire.  Merging the best of technologies from each government has lead to the first true recreational craft solidifying the value of this galactic cooperation.

Fliskits invites you to explore this fanciful universe and your own imagination with this wonderful addition to our futuristic line of model rocket kits.  Featuring one of the most unique tube fin setups in the industry, the HERC-5 also sports a full sheet of colorful water slide decals, positive motor retention and recovery via a colorful plastic parachute.

While offering unique building challenges (you have to cut the body tubes for the twin ram-jet style tube fins).  Cutting tubes is not difficult, but it is different.  It is also a very valuable skill to know.  Once cut, the remainder of the HERC-5 assembly is a snap and the final result will be the pride of your fleet!

Check out the figures and images below to get a better feel for the unique nature of the HERC-5 and prepare to fire your imagination as we warp into space to enjoy the regions of the galaxy opened up with the help of the U.S.S. Grissom and the Borealis!

The short photo album below will grow over time.  Right now it just shows some recent photo's of the proto type and some figures from the instructions.  Please note that the markings on the kit match the image shown above and not as shown on the proto type below.

herc_packaging.JPG (97598 bytes) HERC-5 packaging.  This image shows the front and rear of the HERC-5 kit in its retail packaging.  Reflecting the trademark FlisKits cover slash and header card, you can see all of the parts though you may have to look inside the big BT-70 tubes to see most of them.
herc_figure13.gif (37464 bytes) This figure, straight from the instructions, gives you a better idea of how the tube fins are configured.  These are the two large BT-70 tubes, after having been cut to shape using a provided template.  They are then slit per instructions and slid into each other forming a very rigid assembly that provides a good deal of the models stability.
herc01.jpg (39270 bytes) Side view of the original proto type.  Note the marking that calls out HERC-1, the original name for this kit.  Renamed the HERC-5 to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the opening of FlisKits, Inc.  TRIVIA ALERT: The release date, as identified on the cover of the instructions is 16-August-2007, Kathy Flis' birthday.
herc02.jpg (73400 bytes) Rear view showing the unique method of trapping the engine hook under the tube fin assembly.  Rarely do you see engine hooks used on minimum diameter rocket kits.
herc03.jpg (24296 bytes) Edge profile giving you a better view of the dual interlocking tube fin arrangement.
herc_launch.JPG (55149 bytes) Launch photo from our recent anniversary launch with CMASS in Amesbury, MA on 16-September-2007.  Unfortunately I had the setting on my camera incorrect which resulted in a blurred image.
