The D-Nelson Tomahawk is a stylish sport model and sister ship to the Praetor model rocket kit.

What's the relationship?   Both the D-Nelson Tomahawk and the Praetor are commemorative kits designed by Jim Flis for the Pearl River MOD-Roc conventions held in Pearl River, NY.

This particular design, over 10 years in retirement, commemorates the last of the Pearl River conventions and bears the name of the founder and host, Richard (Dick) Nelson.

Featuring forward swept fins sitting atop rakish tube fins with matching and contrasting edges, the D-Nelson Tomahawk also implements pass-through ejection

into the larger forward tube allowing for easy flight prep and parachute packing.

Richard (Dick) Nelson.  Shop teacher, educator, model rocket enthusiast.

He had a goal of bringing quality, creative education to children in unexpected ways.  He is still fulfilling that goal, as a matter of fact.

However, back in the 70's, 80's and even into the 90's, he had a special focus for creative education.  Namely as founder and host to the largest annual model rocket convention this country has ever known, The Pearl River MOD-Roc convention.

Jim Flis had the honor of designing the commemorative model rocket kits that were given out to attendees of these conventions, taking over where Howard Kuhn left off.  It is with great pride and honor that FlisKits is able to bring the D-Nelson Tomahawk back into circulation to bring you a small piece of rocketry history as well as a darn fine kit!

The images below shows the new kit proto-type showing her colors at a recent CMASS launch in Acton, MA.
