Go back to Week 1
p1011380.jpg (80793 bytes)
First class of the day, ready to go!
p1011382.jpg (81904 bytes)
Hamming it up for the camera, our first 3 are loaded and ready.
p1011383.jpg (72829 bytes)
Thumb on the button, rocket in the air!
p1011384.jpg (85875 bytes)
Right back at'cha, good buddy!
p1011385.jpg (95837 bytes)
Everyone is looking up at the rocket except the boy who just LAUNCHED it!
p1011386.jpg (97755 bytes)
Is this perfect form, or what??
p1011388.jpg (63022 bytes)
Dark, overcast skies resulted in slow shutter speed and blurry pictures again today...
p1011389.jpg (104207 bytes)
Perfect catch!
p1011390.jpg (80861 bytes)
Perfect launch.  If you look to the left and see the girl in the brick-red hooded shirt, she looks like she is holding a Triskelion that is as big as she is!
p1011391.jpg (72811 bytes)
Don't let anyone tell you that model rocketry isn't an "active activity"!
p1011392.jpg (96617 bytes)
Eyes skyward, the mark of a good launch
p1011393.jpg (87643 bytes)
Posing before a launch.  I am just amazed with the imagination used in painting these models!
p1011394.jpg (78293 bytes)
A blurry streak towards the sky!
p1011395.jpg (67029 bytes)
A better shot with the zoom lens
p1011397.jpg (93895 bytes)
And she is OFF!  Typical countdown is 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Launch! Run! as they attempt to catch their returning models.
p1011398.jpg (87648 bytes)
Anticipation is a wondrous thing.  Even after watching several Triskelion launches, their own launch is a most special thing!
p1011399.jpg (70608 bytes)
Especially when you can recover it without ever leaving your launch position!
p1011400.jpg (51482 bytes)
THIS is the definition of "Happy"!
p1011401.jpg (84156 bytes)
It was a cool day, but look at the SLEEVES on that sweater!
p1011402.jpg (78206 bytes)
Houston, we have liftoff!
p1011405.jpg (61772 bytes)
Great shot of the Triskelion screaming off the pad
p1011406.jpg (98699 bytes)
The upturned faces is so cool
p1011407.jpg (69374 bytes)
The last student launch of this class.  This was followed by having the teacher launch the Espresso.
p1011408.jpg (84629 bytes)
After the launching was complete, I noticed that the kids had set all of their rockets down in one area for later retrieval.  Very neat picture.
p1011409.jpg (64075 bytes)
The second class of the day and the last one for this rocketry session at Pollard School
p1011410.jpg (95319 bytes)
Proud rocketeers with their very own creations!
p1011411.jpg (81724 bytes)
And a good reason to be proud.  We were 100% on the day!
p1011413.jpg (95870 bytes)
It seems to take forever for your model to come back!
p1011414.jpg (86328 bytes)
"Happy" was the rule of the day.
p1011415.jpg (78668 bytes)
WHOOSH!
p1011416.jpg (85528 bytes)
Good catch!
p1011417.jpg (99060 bytes)
"Hey, buddy.  Wanna trade rockets?"
p1011419.jpg (95227 bytes)
A good recovery after a great flight
p1011420.jpg (61271 bytes)
Come to papa!
p1011421.jpg (73062 bytes)
"pssst! everybody look cool, he's taking a picture!"
p1011422.jpg (77767 bytes)
You can barely see the Launch Control Officer through the smoke his rocket is making!
p1011423.jpg (90864 bytes)
So close, yet SO far!
p1011425.jpg (82105 bytes)
Faster than a speeding...   ...well, it's FAST, that's about all we can say!
p1011426.jpg (78745 bytes)
Whoops!  Next time I'm using more glue on the shock cord mount...  However, he doesn't look too upset.  Model suffered NO damage and should be ready to fly again in minutes.
p1011427.jpg (84749 bytes)
As I explained on the main page, the students do all of the work, including hooking up the clips.
p1011428.jpg (94900 bytes)
Have you ever seen a more proud group!?
p1011429.jpg (105257 bytes)
Pandemonium as the rocket streaks into the air
p1011430.jpg (71576 bytes)
Another very nice shot
p1011431.jpg (66951 bytes)
And a very nice catch to follow!
p1011432.jpg (10598 bytes)
Full chute means a soft landing.  The kids were really surprised at how slowly the models came down with a fully deployed parachute.
p1011433.jpg (112223 bytes)
It's hard to read, but the model on the right has the rockets name "Triskelion" on it.  (see inset in the lower right) Very cool.
p1011435.jpg (100479 bytes)
Great shot here.  The Launch Control Officer (center) is concentrating very hard on her rocket while her classmates scream out "FIVE" as the countdown begins...
p1011436.jpg (41024 bytes)
Here we have another near-catch
p1011437.jpg (70046 bytes)
Focus, focus, that's it!
p1011438.jpg (90490 bytes)
These kids learned so much these past few weeks, and it isn't over either.  I discovered that tomorrow they will all be taking written tests about their model rocketry experience.
p1011439.jpg (91986 bytes)
Igniters all hooked up, time to pose for a picture!
p1011440.jpg (63711 bytes)
And AWAY we go!
p1011442.jpg (84864 bytes)
This one drifted back a bit and landed in the adjoining ball field
p1011443.jpg (85014 bytes)
But was STILL caught!
