A class full of happy rocketeers!
p1011276.jpg (138941 bytes)
"Anticipation"
p1011277.jpg (157923 bytes)
And success!
p1011279.jpg (147416 bytes)
Here's what it looked like from his point of view!
p1011280.jpg (82382 bytes)
Posing with their rockets.  I was thrill to again see many young girls delving into this hobby that used to be so male dominated!
p1011281.jpg (191035 bytes)
The launch pictures are not the best as it was dark and overcast resulting in slow shutter speeds...
p1011282.jpg (128634 bytes)
Here you can see the Launch Officer (with the LifeGuard shirt) as her rocket streaks to the sky
p1011285.jpg (120940 bytes)
Even though it was overcast, we had a perfect launch day!
p1011286.jpg (153191 bytes)
Many of these rockets provided much needed color on this drab day.
p1011287.jpg (11254 bytes)
I was very pleased with the number of perfect deployments we had this day!
p1011288.jpg (81796 bytes)
Now the guys can show their stuff!
p1011292.jpg (132650 bytes)
And they do, too!  One perfect flight after another!
p1011295.jpg (68504 bytes)
More happy rocketeers as the second class poses for a picture
p1011296.jpg (160034 bytes)
This boy hooks up his micro clips as my adult helpers look on.  I am a big proponent of "do it yourself" as I require each student to do all of the prep work on their models.
p1011297.jpg (138323 bytes)
Here is a picture of the waiting line of rocketeers.  The ones at the table are the 3 with rockets on the pad.  You can see the one girl in the pink jacket with her thumb on the launch button as we begin the countdown.
p1011298.jpg (153782 bytes)
"WHOOSH" was the sound of the day as we launched over 100 rockets!
p1011301.jpg (77173 bytes)
Proud as peacocks with rockets as colorful!
p1011302.jpg (13777 bytes)
Ahhh, the beauty of a full 'chute!
p1011303.jpg (125526 bytes)
Here you get a good idea of how fast model rockets come off the pad.  The young girl launching the rocket has not even begun to look up as her rocket soars into the sky!
p1011304.jpg (60908 bytes)
Then all faces are turned up as they watch the flight of their creations
p1011305.jpg (122328 bytes)
Near-field landings were the norm for today, with only one rocket being lost to the trees.
p1011307.jpg (74723 bytes)
Concentration is evident in the taunt facial muscles of this young girl as she hooks up the igniter clips
p1011308.jpg (75425 bytes)
Now, are these happy rocketeers, or what??
p1011309.jpg (96673 bytes)
One of the big thrills of the day was going out and try to catch your rocket as it comes down!
p1011310.jpg (109666 bytes)
A *very* pretty rocket turns in a very pretty flight!
p1011311.jpg (114621 bytes)
The excitement was evident all day long.  (Note the glue bottle and masking tape for quick field repairs)
p1011313.jpg (106536 bytes)
And AWAY it goes!
p1011314.jpg (81556 bytes)
Fingers outstretched, she closes in on her rockets as it drifts downward.
p1011315.jpg (82800 bytes)
This young lady ran just a *tad* too far and had to lean back to catch her prize!
p1011316.jpg (72596 bytes)
Getting 30+ people screaming a countdown leads to something like this!
p1011317.jpg (142746 bytes)
Followed by this...
p1011320.jpg (65609 bytes)
You can just FEEL the excitement in the air as these young rocketeers near the conclusion of their efforts!
p1011322.jpg (117279 bytes)
FIVE, FOUR, THREE...
p1011323.jpg (137078 bytes)
Great position, good catch!
p1011324.jpg (88258 bytes)
Stripes and polka dots, you gotta love it!
p1011326.jpg (88109 bytes)
Presenting, the Rocket Boys of Plaistow!
p1011327.jpg (131546 bytes)
Up, in the sky!  It's a bird!  It's a plane!  No! It's a Triskelion!!
p1011328.jpg (124997 bytes)
Found it!
p1011330.jpg (78262 bytes)
"Oh man!  Lookit that thing GO!"
p1011331.jpg (126941 bytes)
Got'cha!
p1011333.jpg (85757 bytes)
Now, that's an extra effort, there!
p1011334.jpg (57900 bytes)
Clutching their own rockets, the entire class watches the latest flight
p1011335.jpg (68686 bytes)
"We're the GREATEST!"
p1011336.jpg (170181 bytes)
Perfect flights!
p1011337.jpg (96594 bytes)
Perfect landings too!
p1011338.jpg (88212 bytes)
Lean, lean, LEAN!
p1011340.jpg (109888 bytes)
Smiles like this make it all worthwhile!
p1011341.jpg (86998 bytes)
With all the near field landings, many students were able to catch their models.  It was wonderful!
p1011343.jpg (80943 bytes)
Sprinkles started (as you can see by the umbrella), but that didn't diminish the fun nor the enthusiasm
p1011345.jpg (62898 bytes)
It amazed me how fast these kids could make it out to the recovery area when it was THEIR rocket coming down!
p1011346.jpg (181441 bytes)
Houston, we have ignition!
p1011347.jpg (72660 bytes)
Straight as an arrow and a whole lot more fun!
p1011348.jpg (138204 bytes)
Anticipation as the count nears zero!
p1011349.jpg (97032 bytes)
Smiles light up even the most overcast day!
p1011350.jpg (142611 bytes)
And now we know why they're all smiling!
p1011351.jpg (59880 bytes)
Come to mama!
p1011352.jpg (159096 bytes)
Whoa, I don't think she expected her model to go so fast and high!
p1011353.jpg (65940 bytes)
Thumb on the button, rocket in the air!
p1011355.jpg (103567 bytes)
And the ultimate conclusion to a fun segment of learning
p1011356.jpg (182194 bytes)
Out of 100 rocketeers, we had 100 perfect flights.
p1011358.jpg (83373 bytes)
And 100 thrilled participants!
p1011359.jpg (142963 bytes)
Nearing the end of our launch.
p1011360.jpg (62900 bytes)
But no end to the fun and excitement!
p1011361.jpg (80534 bytes)
Squinting to see, the smiles are all around!
p1011362.jpg (78115 bytes)
ALMOST!
p1011363.jpg (82586 bytes)
The last group for the day
p1011364.jpg (103245 bytes)
Heck, he didn't even have to work for this one!
p1011365.jpg (20514 bytes)
The end of a perfect day.  Back again next week for more fun!
