Scott and I pose with his up-scale of the A.C.M.E. Spitfire.  Absolutely beautiful!   Scott has done a great job and hopes to finish and fly this soon.  He was kind enough to let us keep the model on display for the week.  Needless to say, it got a LOT of attention!

Beautiful on those white motors, much to the delight of the crowd.  I still say it looks best with the black smokers though!

Here's a look at NAR City from the sport range
p3260150.jpg (59458 bytes)

While I was away from the booth, we had a short rain come through.  When I got back I found all of my rockets piled into the back seat!  sheesh!
p3260171.jpg (34818 bytes)
Here is the tail end of Gordon's Tres showing the tail cone and the fact that the motor burn caused absolutely NO damage to the cone.

Carl sets her on the pad while on-lookers and helpers admire the model.
p3270183.jpg (72622 bytes)
Carl poses with this beast.  You can get a good idea of her size in this picture.
p3270184.jpg (83153 bytes)
She stands alone in the tranquil field, awaiting that moment when her igniters explode in such a fury that she has no choice but to leep off the pad.
Now, we were all set for the launch when the sport range RSO calls into the contest range to make everyone aware that the most complicated launch of NARAM was about to take place.  We were all set to hear the RSO begin the countdown when we realized that the RSO at the CONTEST range was doing it.  It seems they shut down the entire range and the entire attendance of NARAM stopped to see what was going on.
p3270185.jpg (34847 bytes)
This is what they saw.  It was worth the interuption.  She ROARED off the pad!  After a short burn, there was a pregnant pause as the model silently coasted upwards, then you saw the drag-separation as the upper stage slide off of her booster.  Those who did not know about this configuration thought it was in the middle of a major failure.  We held our breath as the booster began to arc over, gravity doing her job.  Suddenly, we see a flash and the upper stage is screaming into the air just as the main parachutes are being pumped out of the booster.  The sustainer climbs to a high altitude then deploys her chute as well.  So perfect was this flight that we didn't have to walk more than a couple hundred feet to recover all the components.

Simply incredible.  Thank you Carl!

p3270189.jpg (40943 bytes)
She flys beautifully and I love to get her into the air.

Another shot of the FarScape in action!
p3280193.jpg (38764 bytes)
In the middle of NARAM we had a day off.  Many folks took advantage of this to visit various museums.  Kathy and I decided to take a day long trip into the mountains.   It was wonderful!

On the pad she strikes an incredible pose
p3290215.jpg (40751 bytes)
The burn looks good, but in fact only 2 of the motors light.  She flew well, but will fly so much better with all 4 motors burning.
