FlisKits
6th Anniversary Launch with CMASS!
This was our 6th
sponsored anniversary launch with CMASS. We've had good
weather, bad weather, postponed and delayed events. But
what has always been the same, year after year, is how
FlisKits is welcomed and congratulated at these annual excuses
to fly rockets.
This year was no
different. We had to delay the launch by a week as the
field hadn't been hayed yet. But that only lead us to a
picture perfect day of sun, cool temps and light winds.
We had regulars as well as many new faces attend, set up camp
and either participate or just watch.
We had a lot of
FlisKits kits in the air (more than a hundred near as I can
figure) plus a whole host of other wonderful models both kits
and scratch builts. Low power and high filled the
day. My favorite part of the day was when someone would
come to the booth with one of their FlisKits kits wanting to
show me how they built it, painted it, modified it, or all of
the above. :)
Another favorite
part were all the kids, and there were a LOT of them, flying
every manner of rocket too! With the raffle going we had
a never ending stream of kids coming by the booth, some for
the very first time, some showing off their FlisKits
creations. It was all good.
We had drawings
every hour, giving away Whatchamacallit kits. We also
had prizes (Morning Star kits) for the largest FlisFleet on
the field, the largest number of FlisKits models flown and a
drawing for a Rhino from kids bringing their own FlisKits
models to our booth for inspection.
With all of this
going on, I took it as an opportunity to test several new
proto types for upcoming kits. It was great to get to
fly them and everyone seemed to enjoy the sneak peek
too.
And then there was
cake. We had a beautifully decorated 18" round cake
that we served up as the hot-dog sales started to slow down
shortly after noon. Everyone who wanted cake was able to
get a slice and that helped cap this wonderful celebration.
I want to thank
everyone who attended and participated in helping us celebrate
our 6th anniversary. Special thanks to the folks at
CMASS who got the equipment set up and running for the whole
day. The folks who helped run the launch and those who
helped run the shuttle van all day. Let's not forget
those who stayed late to help take the field down and pack the
equipment too.
Now to get to work
on NEMROC and think about next years 7th anniversary :)
Thank you to
everyone who has helped make this the best celebration ever!
