CMASS opens the season at Amesbury!

Last week we had our Scout Rocket Derby (photo album coming soon) and then we were hit with rain, snow and wind.  How much?   Concord NH recorded a record snowfall for that Sunday.  They also recorded a record RAINfall for that Sunday.  They also recorded record WINDS for that day...

Many communities were flooded, we had over 500 road closures in NH and NH declared a state of emergency.  It was not a fun week and we had a scheduled launch coming up.

Further, over a 14 week period I had 3 classes in 2 different cities have EVERY ONE OF THEIR launches canceled either due to rain or snow.  They were getting frustrated and the number of un-flown rockets kept growing.   It became clear that we would not be able to launch them all as a part of our after school program so I sent all the kids home with letters inviting them to our season opener (and prayed for warmth and dry).

And we got it!  Temps in the 70's, not a rain drop to be seen.  A little more wind than we all expected, but really not all that bad.  We had a very nice crowed there and I had over 20 of my kids show up with their stash of built rockets!  It was a joy to see them all and most of them set up camp around my booth.  I showed them how to prepare their rockets, fill out a flight card and get them to the RSO and the pads.  Between all of these kids we had many Thing-a-ma-Jigs, Whatchamacallit's, Tumbleweed's, Pheord X150's, Decaffeinator's, Corona, Corona-2 (2-stage), Rhino's, and Praetor's.

Each and every one of them got their rockets prepped, to the pad and into the air for a perfect flight.  I AM SO PROUD OF ALL MY KIDS!  They really worked hard and they were rewarded with great flights.  Mom, dad, siblings and friends were all getting into it.  It was great fun!  What thrilled me the most was to see that several of these kids had gone to the hobby shop and picked up OTHER FlisKits models, had them built and flew them as well today.

I got to fly my proto-type Borealis (twice as the first time she lawn-darted), Frick-n-Frack, Nanite and test fly a new booster idea for the Praetor (worked perfectly).  I would have flown more but I was having too much fun helping my kids fly.

The photo album at the left is just a small sampling of the day.  If you get a chance, fly with a club, fly with kids, teach the kids.  Have fun and enjoy!
