Model rockets and kids - How American can you get?!
This has got to be about my 20th B&GC model
rocketry session (if I include Merrimack, Nashua, Litchfield and Hopkinton) over the past
several years. Nearly all of these kids have had rocketry with me before and several
more than 3 times. I guess they like the program and the hobby.
The biggest problem I have with the old-timers
is finding new and exciting challenges for them! This session we built Stingray kits
and the paper CAUTION rocket. Our lone beginner built a Whatchamacallit and an
Triskelion. His older brother (an established rocketeer now, having taken several of
my classes) was on hand to help out with the class (thank you!)
This whole spring session was rather compressed
as we only had 6 weeks instead of the normal 7 (due to a holiday) plus I was going to be
one during one session due to NSL so we had to eliminate one launch and fly all of the
models on the last day.
We all had a ball though and I can't wait for
the fall sessions to begin!
The photo album at the left is just a small
sampling of the day. If you get a chance, fly with a club, fly with kids, teach the
kids. Have fun and enjoy!
