Working with your hands gives you a sense of fulfillment
For whatever reason, I took very few pictures
during the many pinewood classes we had and I was unable to take any during the races as
we were thrust in front of the group audience during closing ceremonies and had to get the
performance underway. I apologize for this and will do better with our next session,
I promise!
Trying to be reasonable on the budget and
"official" pinewood kits being so expensive, we looked for suitable alternates
(hey, this wasn't the Scouts, we can do whatever we want :) ). I found several
wooden models that could easily be converted to pinewood derby use and bought enough to go
around. I let the kids choose which model they wanted and we began.
We had boats, space shuttles, tanks, cars and
even a train as a starting point. I think all the kids had a good time, but better
planning next year will make this class a BIG success.
The photo album at the left is just a small
sampling of the day. If you get a chance, fly with a club, fly with kids, teach the
kids. Have fun and enjoy!
