Time spent out doors is time well spent.
As a young father of two I was always on the
lookout for fun and exciting things to expose my kids to. Being young and
adventurous and always exploring their world, bugs were always high on the list of
exciting things to see. That lead to years of designing and building bug huts and
carrying them with us where ever we went in the hopes of capturing some exotic creature
that we could look at and study at our leisure.
This lead to a great idea for a class, and the
Bug Hunting class was born. We spent the first week talking about bugs and
expectations. The second week was spent building our own bug huts. After that
we had 3 weeks of pure, unadulterated bug hunting!
The one young lady (in the purple sweater above)
was very much into entomology and even went so far as to take her bug hut home and
research each bug she had captured, write it up and bring the list back to class. It
was wonderful!
The photo album at the left is just a small
sampling of the day. If you get a chance, fly with a club, fly with kids, teach the
kids. Have fun and enjoy!
