![]() See familiar faces? These kids have been in several of my classes over the years and many also participated in my other classes (bugs, pinewood, fishing, boats, etc) |
![]() With a mix of beginners (1), intermediate (5) and experienced (7) I had a very mixed crowed. |
![]() Due to time constraints we had all of the intermediate and experienced kids build the Stingray for their first rocket and the CAUTION paper rocket for their second one. |
![]() One of my best students, working independently most of the time. She only asks questions after having listened and then reading the instructions in detail. (She also helps clean up afterwards - Thank you!) |
![]() Stingrays are taking shape. That young boy top center is our beginner (first time in my class) and is building the Thing-a-ma-Jig. His older brother has been in many of my classes and is here this session to help as an assistant. |
![]() Working on the CAUTION rocket. This was good experience for the experienced kids to see how you can use common materials to make a rocket. |
![]() Making good use of tape to hold things in place while they dry. |
![]() Not only completed, but this Stingray is already painted! |
![]() And, of course, goofing off... These two were determined to get a picture of their pinewood cars in rocketry class. (pinewood class was just before this one) |
![]() Near complete, the Stingrays are looking sharp |
![]() This has my vote for best picture of the session. Just so contemplative and serene. |
![]() More with the rockets and pinewood cars! By the way, this is the Tank car that wound up taking first place in the race! |
![]() The young lady who got her models done way ahead of everyone else wanted something more to do. So I gave her a pile of balsawood and said "build something". This is what she built... :) |
| After a 4 week build session with two rockets and me missing one of the sessions, we're now ready to launch! |
![]() First up was my Deuce's Wild! kit to show something different. |
![]() Then, by twos, we began launching, after having prepped all of the models. I only gave a brief overview to these kids as they had all done it before and SHOULD know already. Those who didn't had to rely on their classmates. |
![]() Stingray's away! On the right you can see a Whatchamacallit on the pad. |
![]() Two more, a Triskelion and a modified Stingray. This one had the fins glued on forward swept instead of rearward, just to try something different. Don't try this at home folks :) Turns out this configuration is unstable. A longer body tube and nose weight would have worked though. |
![]() A Stingray and a CAUTION rocket. |
![]() Two CAUTION rockets. We had great success with these little paper rockets. |
![]() Hamming it up for the camera! |
![]() Recovery was always an exciting occasion |
![]() Same two but with different rockets this time. |
![]() The gold Stingray turns in a great flight. |
![]() And great recovery too |
![]() Another view |
![]() Stingrays ruled the day |
![]() And ruled the sky too! |
![]() The kids have learned the value of spill holes in their parachutes! |
![]() Last pix of the day. We had to finish up quick as we were due in the gym to perform the pinewood derby race! |
