Posing for the class picture before we begin, this is the first of 4 classes for the day
p1010286.jpg (125686 bytes)
With each group I teach them how to prep their models, let them do the work then bring them out to the pads in groups of 3 (in this case).  They install their own model on the pad, hook up the clips then pose for a picture.  The entire process is very exciting for them all!
p1010287.jpg (111506 bytes)
And here's why!  There is just something SO exciting about seeing your own creation soar into the air under incredible speed and turn in a flawless flight!
p1010290.jpg (101694 bytes)
Everyone has a great time and I enjoy the excitement as well as the displays of imagination shown in the painted rockets!
p1010291.jpg (74360 bytes)
We had some overcast and that resulted in some darker pictures when using a high shutter setting on the camera.
p1010294.jpg (44147 bytes)
But all in all, some really great pictures here!
p1010295.jpg (69364 bytes)
The weather provided for some good near-field recovery which is always a bonus.
p1010296.jpg (79984 bytes)
Little, inexperienced fingers fumble with the clips until they figure out just how to get the job done.  I coach them but never do the work for them!
p1010297.jpg (85301 bytes)
The bulk coats in the cooler weather doesn't help either!
p1010298.jpg (102382 bytes)
But, in the end, the job is done and done well!
p1010300.jpg (59468 bytes)
as evidenced by one successful flight after another the whole day!
p1010301.jpg (95700 bytes)
Many of the kids love to catch their models, which is as harmless as catching a rubber ball.  So long as they understand that they can only catch their OWN rocket and not someone else's!
p1010303.jpg (73592 bytes)
The cutest pink and purple rocket of the day!
p1010304.jpg (98801 bytes)
Just look at the variety of paint jobs!
p1010305.jpg (82823 bytes)
And away she goes!
p1010308.jpg (117880 bytes)
I embarrasses myself and our young student (the one on the far right) when I referred to him as a her...  My face went red and so did his!  But we both got over it!
p1010309.jpg (76079 bytes)
As with all of my Danville launches, we get a large crowd of students, teachers and parents.  It is simply wonderful to see all the parents take time from their busy day to come out for the launch!
p1010310.jpg (103943 bytes)
Leopard spots are the choice for this wonderful rockets!
p1010311.jpg (120771 bytes)
Everyone lost in their own little world, making sure that THEIR rocket is truly ready to fly!
p1010312.jpg (122733 bytes)
Once satisfied, it is time to relax for a picture.
p1010314.jpg (88305 bytes)
LIFTOFF!
P1010314crop.jpg (79688 bytes)
Here is a close up of that last great launch!
p1010315.jpg (129090 bytes)
Troy, the boy on the right (with the earphones) was nervous with everyone being so loud with the countdowns all day.  BUT, when it was his turn we all discovered he had a good set of lungs himself and loved every minute of it!
p1010316.jpg (87261 bytes)
One perfectly straight flight after another.  These kids loved the level of success they had with such a complex (for them) project!
p1010317.jpg (54638 bytes)
I think the parents were quite surprised too and enjoyed the day with their kids.
p1010319.jpg (126791 bytes)
I know the kids enjoyed it.  You can see it in their smiles!
p1010320.jpg (104600 bytes)
Heck, what's not to enjoy?!
p1010321.jpg (99024 bytes)
More imagination and creativity with orange, blue, white, pink and even blue!
p1010322.jpg (72711 bytes)
Some of my favorite pictures are young (and old) faces upturned to see their creation soar into the sky
p1010323.jpg (65179 bytes)
And, naturally, catching your model is a high point for any child!
p1010325.jpg (63778 bytes)
And it is not just the boys either!
p1010326.jpg (98278 bytes)
More fun, more creativity!
p1010330.jpg (97175 bytes)
As I have said in other albums, there's one (or more) in every crowd! LOL
p1010331.jpg (66654 bytes)
WHOOSH!
p1010332.jpg (64700 bytes)
I would LOVE to see the picture that this young mom was able to take...
p1010333.jpg (84447 bytes)
Helping with the launch, teacher and student bring their hard work to its climatic conclusion!
p1010334.jpg (14803 bytes)
Perfect launch and perfect recovery!
p1010336.jpg (11414 bytes)
Here's a close up of that flight!
p1010337.jpg (103160 bytes)
This boy wants to fly with his rocket, so it seems!
p1010338.jpg (149508 bytes)
But we all know these rockets fly just fine on their own.
p1010341.jpg (95333 bytes)
OOOoooo, if the coats weren't bulky enough, try doing this with mittens on!
p1010342.jpg (101418 bytes)
Others just suffer the colder air and get on with it!
p1010343.jpg (99272 bytes)
Either way, so long as the job gets done!
p1010345.jpg (68822 bytes)
Up and away, you can see the large (and growing) crowd, eyes skyward, watching another flight!
p1010346.jpg (89664 bytes)
This little boy was really getting into it, the whole day.
p1010347.jpg (98068 bytes)
And his excitement was infectious to!
p1010349.jpg (38787 bytes)
And it is easy to see why!
p1010350.jpg (18025 bytes)
It's almost TOO much fun!
p1010352.jpg (95188 bytes)
Clip, clip, hook, clip, getting them all on there!
p1010353.jpg (96720 bytes)
This one girl was trying her best to hide behind her rocket...
p1010355.jpg (107996 bytes)
While we had many model go NEAR the trees, we only had one land IN the trees.  it was a good record for over 70 flights!
p1010356.jpg (105173 bytes)
More creativity, more colors, more fun!
p1010360.jpg (74930 bytes)
Even the teachers got into the fun by building, launching and catching their own creations!
p1010361.jpg (92732 bytes)
One of the later classes poses for a class picture
p1010362.jpg (103418 bytes)
Here they are preparing their motors for installation.
p1010363.jpg (107121 bytes)
Then the parachutes
p1010364.jpg (105192 bytes)
Kinda like nailing Jell-O to a tree sometimes, but we all manage to finish the job!
p1010365.jpg (103371 bytes)
The pinkest little girl of the whole day!  With a beautiful rocket to boot!
p1010366.jpg (98750 bytes)
Anxious and excited, we pose for a picture

Focus, take your time, easy now...
p1010371.jpg (105058 bytes)
All 3 intent on their own rockets
p1010372.jpg (104243 bytes)
Then intent on looking good for the camera!
p1010374.jpg (100427 bytes)
The kids loved that they ran the controller and the field for their launch
p1010375.jpg (83561 bytes)
And everybody loved the results!
p1010376.jpg (101747 bytes)
3 more creative minds bring their work to the forefront!
p1010378.jpg (115146 bytes)

p1010379.jpg (115025 bytes)
And love hamming it up for the camera too!
That was it for photo's as I had the camera setting wrong and filled up the memory card...
