Our first club launch of the year! It was cold and
windy. It was perfect! Would we have enjoyed a warmer, calmer day? Of
course we would, but we were flying rockets. It was perfect!
We saw a large crowd there. At one time I counted over
80 cars. We had lots of families, lots of new-comers and, of course, the usual
collection of die-hard rocketeers wanting to fly and enjoy the beginnings of the season.
For me, this marked my 10th launch of the season and it was
only April for crying out loud! I flew most of our Micromaxx® line, including many
yet to be announced kits. I also got to fly the maiden flight of our soon to be
announced Adfecta kit ("Aspire" in Latin). We saw many FlisKits models in
the air this day along with a host of other kits including many scratchbuilt beauties.
My daughter, Jen, showed up around noon time to enjoy the day
and provide some much desired help with my booth. Having a second person there
allows me to fly and socialize without worry about manning the booth. It is truly a
great help (thank you Jen!).
We had several rockets get hung up on the launch rods.
I am not sure if this was a case of gummed up rods or misplaced launch lugs (or a
mix of the two), but we got past that. We saw a cato or two, but not much in that
respect. We saw MANY perfect flights, a hybrid, two cert flights (successful,
congratulations!) and several high power birds on the away cells.
In all over 300 flights logged for the day. I have said
it before and I will say it again. CMASS has the best organized most family friendly
launches in the country! All club members should be proud to belong to such an
organization and you should go out of your way to thank the core group who always makes
sure that the work is done and the field ready for flight when you arrive!
Here is a short photo album. Not many good pix as my
camera settings were not correct for the overcast skies.
Enjoy!
