Experiments with the Triskelion!
The Nov/Dec session with the Litchfield After School Program
The Boys
& Girls Club of Greater Nashua hosted another rocketry
session in Litchfield for the November/December timeframe. The class was lightly
attended but with this and the previous sessions we hope to have a good turn out for a
more advanced class in the Spring.
For this session we built the Thing-a-ma-Jig first, followed
by the Triskelion. Now, we were scheduled to have a launch after spending 2 weeks
building the Thing-a-ma-Jig, HOWEVER every student (get this) forgot to bring in their
model (and one of them had theirs eaten by their dog!)
Well, I doubt that THIS will ever happen again because the
launch was replaced with a 90 minute lecture on rocket stability, design and function.
Certainly a good class and something I enjoyed delivering, but it certainly didn't
meet the level of fun a launch would have! (lessons learned, I always say :) )
This photo album shows the work these kids did. NOTE:
Because of the small class turnout we decided to have some fun with the Triskelion kit.
I offered modifications for each student so that each Triskelion would come out a
little bit different. Of the 5, one had a payload section, one replaced the
8.5" tube with an 18" tube. Another used both the 8.5 AND an 18" tube
and yet another used two 18" tubes. The last used two 18" tubes and the
provided 8.5" tubes. This gave us many different sizes and configurations of
Triskelion and it was great fun. Certainly something I will try with other classes.
All of the configurations flew great too!
